ABOUT GOTAWAYS

Beyond the groups of people crossing illegally into the United States and giving themselves up to Border Patrol are the lesser-known individuals known as the “gotaways.” This group of illegal immigrants evade Border Patrol and attempt to make their way past state and local law enforcement to get farther into the United States. There have been estimated 1.7 million “gotaways” under the Biden administration. Who are they? Where are they going? What are their plans?

The Epoch Original documentary “Gotaways: The Hidden Border Crisis”  takes you to a small border county in Texas to show you the impact of the gotaways on local ranchers, law enforcement, and life in a small county. "Gotaways" is the first documentary of its kind, a high-energy, fast-paced, front-row seat inside the biggest border crisis in America’s history from the local perspective. Through exclusive footage and interviews with law enforcement and local ranchers, learn what it's really like to live on the southern border and how the crisis ultimately affects all of America.

On top of the 1.7 million known gotaways, border agents have apprehended more than 6.7 million illegal immigrants at our borders since the beginning of the Biden administration. Many are released into the United States and travel on to sanctuary cities such as New York and Chicago, creating ripple effects across the country. According to a new Gallup poll, 72 percent of Americans now believe that the border is either a crisis or a major problem.

A two-year investigation, “Gotaways” was produced, directed, and written by Charlotte Cuthbertson, a senior border security correspondent for The Epoch Times. Charlotte moved to a small border county in Texas in 2021 and spent hundreds of hours with local law enforcement, as well as interviewing the sheriff, county attorney, EMS director, school superintendent, a former Border Patrol chief, and border ranchers to understand the impact and flow of the gotaways.

This documentary gives you an insight into what's happening at the border and the everyday heroes who are working hard to keep their community safe and protect our border.
