Hey there beautiful human, hope you’re having a lovely morning! This is Angela from Beauty Within
Do you tend to go with the flow?
There's a term in Taoism called "Wu Wei" (無為), which can be roughly translated as non-action. Different schools of thought interpret Wu Wei differently, though I like to see it as "acting without desire" or a state of non-striving that leads to "effortless action." Taoism is all about following "the Tao" aka ~the Way~. What is the Way? Well, you could say it's the natural way or order of things. Basically, the goal is to be in harmony with the universe. Just like how there is a natural way of raining, a natural way of growing, there is a natural way for us to carry ourselves. And one way to do so is by practicing Wu Wei.
Here's a little experience I had with Wu Wei.
So back in college, I ate a lot, and gained around 15 pounds. For 2 years, I tried desperately to lose weight by working out and doing intermittent fasting, but to no avail. Later, a few months into the pandemic, a funny thing happened. I stopped caring as much about my appearance and diet, and I stopped working out. But instead of gaining weight, I ended up losing 20 pounds! All without paying much attention or trying. It seems that after I had abandoned my obsession with wanting to look good and lose weight, I naturally achieved the goal. Weird how that works, huh? By letting go, you naturally gain. All too often we can get too wrapped up in chasing after our goals. But maybe sometimes, the answer is to let go and just go with the flow ~ “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” ― Lao Tzu With that, I wish you more opportunities to go with the flow and to take on the week with effortless action!
With love,
